Intelligent SLAM vision system

Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping (SLAM) technology means the robot always knows where it is in the room.

Fresnel lens technology

Allows the optical properties of a spherical lens using a flat sheet with surface facets. Employed by the long-range ‘time-of-flight’ sensors, it enables the robot to see up to two metres in all directions.1

Hemispheric lens

The fish-eye lens has six elements, allowing it to see 360° and accurately interpret its surroundings.1

LED light ring

Eight LEDs1 work in tandem with the SLAM module to enable low light navigation. They illuminate the camera's field of view, while mirrors help to focus the robot’s sensors.

The lampshade moment.

We realised that intelligent navigation was crucial. Inspired by the Dyson café’s chrome light shades, our engineers tried turning one upside down and fitting a camera underneath. It allowed us to film panoramically, and was the beginning of our unique 360° vision system.

Advanced memory

Powerful quad core processors allow the robot to store maps and constantly aggregate them over time. Its 4Gb of memory¹ is 16 times that of its predecessor⁴, with eight times more short-term memory¹ and 100 times more long-term memory¹ to enable continuous learning and improvement.

“Since we started working on robotics, we wanted to produce a vacuum that cleaned properly – not just a gadget.

Ours has eight sensors for improved navigation, and powerful suction, so it can clean your home.”

James Dyson – Engineer

Navigation sensors

A total of eight sensors help the robot see a four-metre diameter around it.1 There are two obstacle sensors at the front, two drop sensors, two wall sensors, and two long-distance sensors.

Long-range mapping sensors

The time-of-flight sensors use a lens similar to those found in a lighthouse, allowing the robot to see up to two metres away.1

Drop sensor

Helps the robot recognise and avoid staircases and other drops.

Wall proximity sensor

Allows the robot to vacuum as close to the wall as possible.

Obstacle sensor

Sees ahead to help the Dyson 360 Heurist™ robot vacuum slow down smoothly in front of objects.

Technology based on big Dyson vacuums

Patented2 Dyson vacuum technology, engineered for powerful suction.

Dyson digital motor V2

Small, light, yet extremely powerful. Spins at 78,000rpm1, generating 20% more suction than the Dyson 360 Eye™ robot.

Radial Root Cyclone™ technology

Based on our full-size and cord-free vacuum technology, centrifugal forces inside the cyclones create up to 70,000g1 to spin dirt out of the air. So more is captured in the bin.

Cleans wherever it goes

Full-width brush bar

The 212mm-wide brush bar1 stretches the full width of the machine – so it cleans right to the edge of the robot.

High rotation speed

The brush bar speed has been increased from our previous robot to 1,600rpm1, for increased dust removal.

Carbon fibre filaments

Anti-static strips containing 2,190,3301 carbon fibre filaments to pick up fine dust from hard floors.

Stiff nylon bristles

The brush bar has 6,947 stiff nylon bristles1 to drive deeper into the carpet to optimise dirt pick-up. Bristles are 100% stiffer than the Dyson 360 Eye™ robot.3

Lines of code. Being added to all the time.

Kilometres driven by prototype rigs

Punches of the on/off switch

Uncompromising progress

In 1998, we started working on robotics. From the start, we wanted to produce a vacuum that cleaned properly – not just a gadget.

By 2001, we had our DC06 robot vacuum ready to launch. But we felt it was too heavy and expensive, and we weren’t prepared to go to market until it was right.
Fast forward another 14 years, and we launched the Dyson 360 Eye™ robot vacuum. It was the first ever with a digital motor and combined powerful suction with 360° vision.
For 2 more years, Dyson engineers relentlessly worked on new technologies using results from years of testing in real homes across the world.1 The Dyson 360 Heurist™ robot improves the cleaning power, navigation and user experience.
